Specialized configurations can be provided with a once off configuration charge. A block diagram description of the operation of the unit as well as a written explanation is required to develop the customized functionality of the Quad Signal Processor. The main benefit over using a PLC approach is that it is compact and cost effective for applications which require several devices with the same function. The unit cost after the firmware has been written is the same as for a standard unit.
The QSP consists of three printed circuit boards, an Analogue Input PCB (on the left of the module), a Processor PCB (in the middle) and an Analogue Output PCB (on the right). There are four processors on the Analogue Input PCB, one for each isolated input and then one main processor on the Processor PCB.
The analogue inputs are converted and then provided onto an isolated input serial communications port for the main processor. Some pre-processing can be done, such as averaging, peak hold, etc. and then the main processor collects the analogue inputs, processes them according to the specific application and then sends the desired output to the various analogue outputs.
The analogue input resolution is 10 bits. There is a main processor which transmits the outputs to the four, 12 bit analogue outputs. This firmware in the main processor can be modified to suit specific applications which can be used in conjunction with the two digital inputs and the two digital outputs.
A serial communications port is also available for downloading new firmware and also accessing all the various inputs and outputs. Even though the protocol is pretty basic, all the features of the device are available.
