Rotary Kiln Temperature De-Multiplexer

The Kiln Temperature De-Multiplexer has been designed to work with the older type of rotary kilns which have a single transmitter and multiple thermocouples which are mechanically connected to the transmitter when they reach the lowest point in the kiln's rotation. A switch closure indicates that the next thermocouple has been connected and the 4 to 20 mA output represents a valid temperature. At this point the current output is latched until the next switch closure is detected - when the next thermocouple is connected to the transmitter.  The Kiln Temperature De-Multiplexer keeps track of the switch closures and produces twelve 4 to 20 mA output signals, one for each thermocouple which can then be connected to a standard 12 pen chart recorder.
  • One 4-20 mA input.
  • Twelve 4-20 mA outputs.
  • One digital thermocouple clock input.
  • One digital synchronizing input at thermocouple 1 position (TC#1).
  • Wall mount enclosure with plug-in connections for convenient replacement.
  • Mains powered with LED indication.
  • LEDs to indicate which thermocouple is selected.
  • Galvanic isolation between the input and the outputs.
  • Outputs share a common ground suitable for a multi-channel chart recorder or PLC input.
  • Modbus or RMF ASCII serial interface (RS232/RS485).
  • Multiple alarm outputs.
  • 95 - 265 VAC powered.
Various alarm outputs are provided to indicate to the operator if something goes wrong with the switch or temperature inputs:
Analogue Input Out of Range Alarm - this alarm is activated if the temperature input goes outside the normal 4 to 20 mA range.
Clock Fail Alarm - this alarm monitors the time between the switch closures and if it exceeds a preset time this alarm is activated.
Sync Fail Alarm - when the Sync switch is detected out of the normal sequence then this alarm is activated.
Comms Watchdog Alarm - when enabled, this alarm occurs when serial communications with the Kiln Temperature De-Multiplexer is stopped for any reason.
Software Options
Chart displays of temperatures measured from TC#1 to TC#6 and TC#7 to TC#12.
A picture with temperatures displayed as well as colours to indicate operating temperature in relation to the desired temperature profile limits.
Logging to disk of all temperatures in a file format compatible with Microsoft Excel.
Alarm settings for each thermocouple, two for the high alarm level - warning and alarm; and two for the low alarm level - warning and alarm.
Two relay outputs - one for the warning and the other for the alarm.
The screen display which can be viewed over an existing network using a shareware program.
Optional automated E-mail reporting.
Optional automated SMS transmission of extended alarm conditions or poor operating procedures.
